Do you have an example of a happy ending that cost “too much”?
I think there’s a difference too between costs that were “too high” vs costs that were forgotten. For example, Fili dies in The Battle of Five Armies but nobody mourns him (except maybe a caring viewer) then, in the end, the story is supposed to end happily. I think part of nailing a happy ending is effectively recognizing and mourning the costs of that happy ending. Kind of helping to close the circuit, you know?
Also, I’m not quite done with Way of Kings yet, so I’ll have to circle back and read that part later. 😛
@graceabounds2129 I haven’t read either of those books. They look good, though. Are you thinking about circling back and rereading Hattie Big Sky, or not? Do you generally like books that make you cry, or avoid them like the plague?
