@steward-of-the-pen Firstly, I admire your courage in being able to ask for help about this! I have trouble with that because I usually tell myself I can do it all on my own and don’t need any help even though that’s really not the case.
Now, about recharging that creative power… I agree totally with @evelyn and @cassie-hartfinh. Pray, don’t stress, and write what you know.
Cassie mentioned using her own experiences in writing, and that’s also what I do. I have characters who reflect little parts of my personality or the things I’ve gone through. I turn them into fuel for my writing.
Say I have a selfish, mean-spirited, and prideful character who I write flawlessly. It’s not because I’m a master of writing characters or character flaws in general. It’s because I have or once had those faults. As I grew and God changed my heart, I was able to look back on them and transform them into a character. I can even look at my characters from years ago and see hints of my personality at that stage in my life.
Definitely brainstorm and talk out your ideas with friends or other people close to you. Also try writing in first person! (I have an easier time writing with that POV than any other. It might be different for you, so just find what you’re most comfortable with.) Put on music while you write! I may be preaching to the choir on this, but music has helped me through a lot of rough patches. 😛 Here‘s the one I’m listening to right now.
I will most certainly be praying for you. Just know that you’re not alone and God has a plan in all this. 🙂
