    @corine I wholeheartedly agree! It always makes the dialogue a little… wonky when they’re sticking words like “illuminated” in there, especially when the over tone don’t mesh with it. I do think it can get a little dry when “said” is the only tag, but I prefer to use actions tags, sometimes in addition to said. Like:

    “I don’t think this is going to work,” he fiddled with the unopened bag of popcorn.

    “What other choice do we have?” she said as she pulled the strap of her backpack over her shoulder. “The microwave is broken. We need to cook that popcorn somehow.”

    “But what if the dragon doesn’t want to help?”

    “He will if we offer to share,” she said, nodding knowingly.

    What do you guys think of that approach? It, of course, can get overused too.
