Right off I’m curious about why Johnson’s mom is sick, why Johnson has to leave without his dad knowing, and why everything is so secretive in general.            His mom just got some kind of disease I guess. I never considered it important to my plot, so I didn’t think it through that much, but I suppose I do need to clarify that for readers. As for why he has to leave without his dad knowing, I can’t tell my readers that yet. Johnson himself doesn’t find out until later. Do you think it’ll mess readers up not knowing until later, or can I get away with leaving it do you think?

@taylorclogston I was hoping it would! (about the “sir”)    I’ve heard Johnson as both first and last names. And, yes, I kinda envisioned it to be set in the… maybe mid 1700’s? I don’t know… I always have a hard time deciding what year my stories are set in. Always.

Nope! I’ve been influenced greatly by Eoin Colfer’s “Airman.”  Black Hugh is based off of the main villain in Airman. I forget his name. Oh yeah. Hugo Bonvilain. Well, I suppose Bonvilain was kind of like a pirate, but only in personality.
