Great topic!
I have way too many story/author quirks (I hope that doesn’t mean I’m a bad writer!)
One of the quirks about my writing is that I’m really bad at planning, and my characters kind of have a mind of their own, and they keep doing things I don’t expect them to do…
Anyway, a result of that is that I was figuring out who the murderer was in my mystery with my protagonist!!! I don’t think that’s how it’s supposed to work. Yeah… As a result, my story needs some big-time editing, but I did enjoy the mystery. 🙂
Another little quirk is that I love annoying characters. As such, my protagonist is very no-nonsense and easily irritated, and then I filled the world with lots of lovable-but-annoying characters to follow her along. I love her love interest (who pesters her constantly, which annoyed her for the longest time until she started to have feelings for him) and her super snoopy reporter friend-ish (they become friends, but boy does the MC hate her at the beginning).
I also have this thing about torturing my favorite characters (if I love them, they go through the most awful situations, but don’t die). I think that’s pretty normal though.
As for my own quirks, I have to write in silence. I also come up with most of my brilliant ideas a) on a walk, or b) in the shower.
Hope I didn’t ramble on too long. That was fun!
