@steward-of-the-pen Since it’s supposed to be the first of a trilogy, I want to make sure it feels like it would lead into something interesting. I’m worried the characters aren’t engaging, and that there is just too little going on to interest anyone. I’ve received some complaints about no worldbuilding (I hate dworldbuilding, so I got lazy with this one) and I’m interested to see suggestions of what you’d expect to see in a world like this. What do you feel about the theme? I’m worried that there isn’t terribly a closed arc for the protagonist in this one. Where do you expect his arc, and the arc of the whole story, to go from here?
Frankly, 7K is great for someone who works at a desk. I know some kids in high school who get like 3K or less a day. Lazy little bums =P Good on you for making sure to get that exercise.
Your protagonist issue sounds tough for sure. I’ve had a bit of success in a similar situation in choosing a few words my character isn’t allowed to use and that I tend to use a lot. It didn’t immediately fix my problem, but it made me more conscious of his voice as I kept on.
