    Happy New Years!:)

    1. What are three things you know about characters?

1.1 Characters are the reason/s why readers continue reading a story even when the plot may be terrible. (Human beings tend to have an easier time loving other humans or superhumans such as Clark Kent yet the latter said species also have a very human side – rather than plot twists. Don’t ask me why, but that’s the way it is. 😉

I’m not really pitting characters against plots, here, but just saying that we have a tendency to stick by the characters even when we may not think the story itself is so stellar.

1.2 Characters need to be realistic in order for them to be relatable, although a lot of them are stereotyped in terms of personality and story role (which may or may not be proper for one’s particular story, depending on the purpose/style/etc.).

1.3 There are three types of character arcs: positive (positive moral development), negative (moral development), and flat (not much development in terms of moral mission, but the relationship to or understanding of his/her moral/goal changes).

    2. What are three things you’d like to know about characters?

2.1 How to actually accomplish the above said.

2.2 In more detail, creating more variety in my characters.

2.3 Also, what type of character (arc) is best for my WIPs.

    3. What do you believe the crafting of characters has to do with powerful writing?

I think I answered this above in point 1.1. But to re-state: character craft is extremely important for powerful writing.

    4. On a scale of 1-10 (1 being appalling, 10 being stunning) how well do you think you write characters?

I’d say a two. 😛 Just being honest here. My characters tend to sound alike, and while I know how to use them in my plot, I may not realize when the characters are acting out of order (in terms of personality).

I’m trying to do these lessons as soon as I see it – on US Monday. 🙂 But sometimes I may need more time to think about a proficient response.
