@j-a-penrose Just so you know, you made this thread twice!

    1. What are three things you know about characters?

    • It’s okay to have less-fleshed out characters who don’t have the spotlight. A 2D character seen from only one angle looks 3D.
    • Characters are agents who drive the plot and express the theme.
    • Characters are the interface between the reader and the story.

    2. What are three things you’d like to know about characters?

    • I don’t like writing more than a few characters in a given story. How do I flesh out my story with them?
    • How do I write a story with multiple primary viewpoint characters? How do I reconcile the timing of them?
    • How do I make sure my subplot characters feel relevant after the subplot is finished?

    3. What do you believe the crafting of characters has to do with powerful writing?

    • I believe properly-written characters are the cores of good stories. Like I said above, you can’t have a plot without people driving it, and I believe theme is best expressed through character agency rather than through a narrator’s soliloquy or through random chance/karmic/deus ex machina plot events.

    4. On a scale of 1-10 (1 being appalling, 10 being stunning) how well do you think you write characters?

    • 4/10

(please note that I hadn’t considered giving a pun answer until you pointed out. Thank you for leading me into temptation :-{ )

The timing doesn’t matter to me. I can do any day. Thanks for posting this!
