I love the ending because it shows the hobbits finally standing up for themselves and being different, in their own homeland. It’s the culmination of their arc! Of course, I’m biased because I adore the trilogy and don’t like it ending, so it’s VERY nice for me that it takes forever to end. I can take my time 🙂 My favorite anecdote, though, is that there’s still more ending that was cut-off because it was just too much. Tolkien is bad at ending things, and I’m very grateful for that (except the Silmarillion, which ended quite abruptly – but, then again, the circumstances surrounding its publishing and the book style itself weren’t the same).
