@the-fledgling-artist Totally feel you there! Almost everyone who as ever seen my drawings have had one of the above reactions.

I tend to fall into the category of not showing others my art (or my writing for that matter). And I don’t really correspond with any other artists, (aside from SE) so I’m not faced with that question too often.

But when people say things like that it really puts you in an awkward position!  I try to receive compliments as humbly as I can, and then respond as encouragingly as possible towards their own abilities.

One of the reasonings I use when the, ‘you’re so good, and I’m so terrible’ comment comes out, I try to tell them  that, ‘hey, I’ve been drawing for a long time, and it took a lot of practice to get here’. Or that everyone has their own styles, and not all art will look the same. 99% of the time these comments come from non-artists, or little kids, so that’s pretty much my go-to response! I don’t know that there’s ever really a good way to respond. I guess you just have to assess each situation, to figure things out from there. :-/
