Question: I’m having trouble putting my mentor, or even mentioning him in the first act. He comes around during the second act of course ( cause that’s when he starts mentoring ), and the third act ( though he doesn’t do as much mentoring in the third act then he does in the second act ), but before then…. nada.
I can’t pull the mentor-is-an-old-and-wise-friend-of-the-hero, mainly because everyone we meet in the first chapter gets either literally or figuratively torn away from the hero ( i’m kinda uprooting the hero, getting her into a place where she’s not comfortable… I’m so evil ). The mentor is someone the hero meets along the way of her travels.
So I guess my question is, are the rules for the mentor being introduced in the first act strict? or are they bendable?
