Okay, here’s a poem I wrote a while back. It was inspired by…well, someone wrote an article/email thing for KP that referenced several fake short stories/songs/poems with crazy made-up names. One of those was a poem titled “Dumping Sunflowers.” I began to wonder what a poem titled “Dumping Sunflowers” would actually be like, so to satisfy my curiosity I wrote this:
Dumping Sunflowers
Yesterday evening I stayed up too late
Way past my bedtime (which I’ve grown to hate)
I’ve lots of excuses to stay up “all hours”
But none is as good as “I’m dumping sunflowers!”My sunflowers grow at a rate that astounds
And over my house they have leapt in great bounds
When they are ripe the seeds come down in showers
So all of the time now I’m dumping sunflowers. They grow up so large that I use a great saw
And cut them and tie them and while they’re still raw
I pack them in trucks till I wish for great powers
For nothing’s so hard as this dumping sunflowers.I drive the first truck and my friends drive the rest
And we take the big loads to some old dumpster’s nest
He opens the gates and he usually glowers
Till we explain quickly “We’re dumping sunflowers!”He then lets us in and we open the trucks
And all of the flowers, they fall down in shucks
Then loudly I yell, so that everyone cowers
“Goodnight! I’m finished with dumping sunflowers!”…So, yeah. That’s it. 😛 What do you all think?
