@j-a-penrose Ooooooh, this should be fun! *deviously begins scheming*
“No,” I whisper into the silence.
They thought I didn’t have a choice. They told me I didn’t have one.
But I was still alive.
They never kept someone alive unless they wanted them to make a choice. One that would give them the right to kill.
It was all I had left. A single choice. Right and wrong had been blurred into a gray sludge, and I had to choose which one to take, in hopes that it wasn’t the darker gray.
I feel my way along the wall. There; a window. They left me in a tower with a window.
They’re handing me this on a silver platter.
They would rig it. Make it hard, but not impossible.
I might die trying, of course; just by trying to escape I wouldn’t be killed in cold blood.
“No,” I say, my voice strong this time.
I would take that choice.
I boost myself up on the ledge. Wind tears like knives through my thin clothing; I’m up high.
I allow myself the luxury of hesitating one more moment.
And then I leap.
Faith.
Okay, so I kind of made that up as I went along, but now I have a couple of really epic ideas running through my brain. Holy cows, this could make an EPIC Rapunzel retelling. *runs off to scribble down all my ideas*
