@eden-anderson, woe, I just saw your profile! My sister Hannah would die over your hedgehog pic. Do you have one??!! :_
And you write historical fiction!!! Yay… so do I. Good for you! What do you write about/ what time eras?

Hey @selah-chelyah
So, nice to meet you!! 😀 Are you new here or have we just never run into each other?
Unfortunately, no. I don’t have a hedgehog…where I live they are illegal.😭 But I really, really ADORE hedgehogs and Ferdinand is my imaginary one. He’s the little guy in the picture. 😛
I sorta write historical fiction…I haven’t been working on any recently. My WIP is in the fantasy genre. But I’ve had this story running through my head for the past two years that I want to write, but the research is daunting me. That’s so COOL that you write historical, I was hoping I would meet somebody like you! Everybody around here seems to be huge on fantasy. (which I mean, I like it myself…😀) I’m interested in the nineteenth century, which is VERY broad (sorry) and I like World War I and II history.
Awesome! I love nineteenth century history/fiction, and WWI/II. What is your story idea about, if I may ask?
I have a book set in the 1900`s and the sequel is in WWII.
Sure, here’s what my story is about. (But I warn you I’m bad at describing…😛) It’s about a nineteen year old girl named Allison Moore who is happily living with her parents in a small town in Ohio, sometime around the middle/late nineteenth century. Allison receives a letter from her mother’s three single sisters, they are elderly and she has never met them before…anyway, they are asking her to come and spend the summer with them to help care for the youngest sister, who is very ill…or so they say. Unbeknownst to Allison, her mother, who is very distraught by the fact that her only daughter hasn’t had a single suitor yet, is contriving with her three older sisters (Allison’s aunts) to have Allison married by the end of the summer. They decide to send to Allison up to where the aunts live, which is a much larger town and therefore is much more likely to produce potential love-interests. It’s supposed to be a comedy so things go horribly wrong, the aunts skrew things up really bad and suddenly they have way more problems than they were anticipating. Allison is mortified when she learns what they are doing and things go haywire. 😛😀
So there it is…I could probably go on for a lot longer because the plot is basically figured out by now. (It’s been rolling around in my brain for years.)
What’s your book about?
Wow, what a plotline! That sounds like a fun book to write. :_
I am not good at describing either, but here goes…
(This book was the first one I started, around age 14, and I have a lot of reworking to do, etc!)
Mary Grace was left on the doorstep of a Catholic orphanage as a baby, after her mother Kathleen was assaulted and became pregnant. She grows up bitter at Catholicism and everything it represents, and desperate for love. When she is in her teens, she runs away from the orphanage one stormy night and nearly freezes to death before the police search party find her and take her to the nearest farmhouse to rest and thaw out. (Which is actually her grandmother Eunice`s house, but she has no idea of that until later, not knowing who her mother is.) The police who found her are headed by a man named James… fast forward to the fact that James adopts her right after marrying his housekeeper of many years, Maria. There are ups and downs, and she eventually cannot stand the fact that James and Maria are Christians as it reminds her of the outward religion of the orphanage, and she runs away from them. She ends up in the city, has a hasty marriage with an only-too-avowed lover, only to have him shot in a drunken bar argument three weeks later, leaving her pregnant and penniless. She hunts for work, and eventually lands a job as a maid in a well-to-do establishment. After another few months she realizes she both has to, and wants to, return home to have her baby. So the prodigal goes home, to the open arms of her recent parents. She has a daughter, Eleanor, and through a miraculous life-and-death experience comes to know the Lord! Returns to her work as a maid after several months, as she had promised she would return after she had her baby. The lady who she is a maid for takes a special interest in her and the fact that she is grieving over something (the fact that she does not know who her biological mother is, and wants to find her). They become even closer when Mary returns as a Christian, as they both know the Lord and share a sweet fellowship in that fact. Eventually, right before she was to return home after the promised year, she finds out her employer is her mother, Kathleen! Through much rejoicing, the family (and grandmother Eunice) are reunited, and James and Mary move in with her and her mother. Fast forward, she marries a Christian man, and they have a home of their own.
The ending is far more dramatic than that sounds, and there area lot more details, but that is the general idea! :_ I will probably end up setting it in England, not the U. S. as the plotline fits there more than it would here.
I also planned a second book, a sequel, where the family goes as missionaries to India during WWII. (I am a giant fan of India and WWII. :_)
I will post a summation of the book I started more recently when I have a chance, if you want.
Your book-to-be sounds like quite a funny and enjoyable read. It reminds me of the book “Honor Bound”. Ever heard of it?!
@selah-chelyah That’s a really developed plot line. Awesome job! It sounds interesting. 😀 Sure, I’d love to hear about your most recent book.
I’ve never heard of Honor Bound before. Who’s is by?
Umm… *runs downstairs to check* Colleen Reece!
Will give you the overview of WIP #2 when I have a moment (it is yet unnamed).
Finally got to write this down! 🙂 Here goes WIP 2… (Please comment if you have any ideas or thoughts!
Rochelle Marie Rietti is killed on September 11, 2001, when her flight (American 11) is hijacked and flown into World Trade Center 1. A career girl and professional lawyer from a work- oriented family, she has never married and started a family.
As her family recovers from her shocking death, they discover that she has a 7-yr-old daughter named Georgia, who`s existence they were unaware of. Georgia comes to live with her grandparents until Rochelle`s twin sister Antonia falls in the love with the little girl and decides to adopt her. As Antonia is going through her sister`s papers one day, she finds a letter that Rochelle had requested to have sent to the father of her daughter in case of her death. Antonia sends the letter.
Several weeks later, a businessman named Jordan Palmer appears on her doorstep, wanting to see his daughter Georgia. He becomes adamant for custody of her, and a battle ensues between him and Antonia. Georgia thinks they should get married so they could all live happily together, which they consider obviously impossible, remaining frustrated with eachother over the whole issue. Their lawyer suggests, however, that if they really do care most about the girl`s happiness they would do just that and not battle it out in court! Mutually irritated, they nevertheless agree to a “marriage of convenience”, if only for the sake of Georgia`s happiness, and as they can live separate lives on either end of Jordan`s sprawling home.
Thus begins an unhappy year of distancing themselves as much as possible, even as Georgia tries to bring them together. Eventually she succeeds in doing just that in a tragically comical ending, and they become a true family for the glory of their newfound Lord and Master.
