Wow, great discussion!! Thanks for the rundown of chivalry, @wordsmith, that was great. As a history geek, one thing that I am in love with is knighthood and the code of chivalry. I’ll just say it, I absolutely detest when guys are wimps. I hate weak handshakes in the first place, but when a guy gives me a handshake that is less firm than mine… (the family term for that is called the “limp biscuit handshake” [please don’t ask how that got started])

When guys act unlike guys, it drives me up the walls, I just cannot stand it. So one thing I love about history, is that guys weren’t wearing mascara and acting unlike guys… I don’t have to spell it out. However, on the opposite side of the spectrum, we have guys like the vikings who, shall we say, were not painting their nails, but were just horrible men. I’ve studied this era because I love nordic stuff, and I’m not talking about the good norsemen, I’m talking about the vicious Vikings that were evil. So we’ve got effeminate wimps and men who are anything but effeminate, but they take their power and abuse it.

I love Reepicheep from Narnia, how can we talk about chivalry and not mention the noble mouse? I love his daring and fearless little character with the perfect furry gentleman inside of him. Little mention of him here.

O.K. So, back to serious. When guys stand there and are crude, noisy and immature while I’m standing there across from them instead of taking note that I am a lady, and I want to be treated like it, I do not consider that chivalrous. I consider chivalry to be when a guy is manly and honorable, and especially, respects women because they are women. It’s the Biblical concept of respecting women as the weaker vessel. And I look at gals with a scornful eye for not trying to bring this out in guys by not ACTING like the weaker vessel. Girlies, when will they get it?? If they want guys to be chivalrous, then they need to be DESERVING of chivalry!!! No, I’m not excusing guys that aren’t, or blaming girls for guys actions, but I am saying that if you want to be respected, then be respectable. If you want guys to respect you as the weaker vessel, then have a meek and quiet spirit. Wow, what a mess we get into when we don’t follow God’s design…

That’s one reason we write, is it not? To portray God’s original plan??
