Background: Tinero is this mythical creature which is powered by a jewel inset into his chest. If it’s removed, he basically shrivels up and dies. Only Tinero can take out the jewel. Skye wants said jewel.

“Tell me, Tinero. Have you ever loved?” asked Skye.

    The creature laughed. “Only myself.”

“Isn’t that vain. Would you ever do something for someone else, though? Someone who loved you? Someone who would die for you?”

His eyes thinned into slits. “If you mean yourself, then no. I could never give my heart to someone like you.”

Skye shook her head. “Oh, no. Not me. There is one far greater than me who desires your allegiance, and he will not – can not – claim it by force. You must give it.”

“My heart is mine, and mine alone.”

I don’t know if that makes any sense at all out of context 😛 Or accomplishes the goal. Again, the characters are inspired by those in my book. But there you go. @jane-maree
