“Is it this way?” Loray questioned as she wandered the halls. She’d only been living in her mentor’s estate for a few weeks now, and still she found herself getting lost in the vast halls. Currently, she was late for her calligraphy lessons. What calligraphy had to do with singing songs for the royal family and their peers, Loray wasn’t sure, but she was excited to learn the art nonetheless. And, if nothing else, it beat out posture lessons, or lessons in table manners, or all the other boring things her Lady insisted she learned.

Of course, she wouldn’t get any of those lessons if she couldn’t find the proper room. Loray turned what she hoped was the right corner, only to come across another hallway exactly like the one before it. She groaned. There was only one choice.

Marching up to the nearest door, Loray tried peeking inside, only to nearly be hit in the face with a broom. She hurriedly slammed the door shut, then continued on to the next door. This repeated until Loray had tried every door to no avail. Defeated, she turned to go back the way she came, when, in the corner of her eye, she spotted an extra door. It hadn’t been there before, had it?

Curious, Loray shuffled over to it. The door looked exactly the same as the others. And yet, something seemed off. Deciding to chance it, Loray opened the door and peeked inside. Except, she had no clue what she was looking at. Whatever kind of room this was, it was engulfed in darkness. Loray grinned like a small child would as possibilites of what the room could be filled her mind.

Well, she was late to class anyway. A couple extra minutes wouldn’t hurt anything now. Loray swung the door open and stepped inside the room. The light from the outside world had done nothing to drive away the shadows that covered the room. Yet, Loray seemed to take no notice of this as she closed the door behind her.
