Right now I’m writing science fiction, about a disaster on a tiny, remote research planet. It leans toward a lot of Western tropes as well. I talk about it more here, and in my profile.

That premise sounds absolutely fabulous, I love smaller-scale sci-fi, but it’s hard to find!

I know most people don’t like to work this way, but I cannot work on a story without having a clear theme pictured first. This one is along the lines of “how should one live in doomed times” or slightly more specifically “how should a young person live in times without guidance?”

Oh, I completely get that! I don’t always work that way, but my latest few projects all came theme-first. The project I’m currently planning, Murder of Swans, certainly did! I had the theme and two main characters and then it started going in every direction, but those elements have stayed fixed.

I do find that I often discover secondary themes as I’m drafting. That’s always fun!

I love those themes, that’ll be so fascinating!

As for hobbies, I travel when I can and enjoy occasional diy projects – woodwork, gardening, knitting, sewing. As for reading, the  genre of my youth was fantasy, but lately I have been trying almost everything and I like it all – mystery, westerns, literary, contemporary, fantasy, and sci fi. Cormac McCarthy’s All the Pretty Horses has been my favorite find of the last few years.

That’s awesome! I sew too! I used to knit, I just haven’t done it recently.

I read a whole bunch of genres too, it’s fun because you can draw ideas from all of them!

My current project is a fantasy trilogy. I’m in the last three chapters of the third book, and after that comes revisions. I’m also planning the aforementioned story, “Murder of Swans”, which is a contemporary mystery.
