Gotcha! Yep, I was right Just wanted to make sure!
LOL, I get it! I often mentally pronounce character names as gibberish and then I have to actually say their name to someone else and I can’t XD
It’s… it’s almost as natural as breathing, when you get to a certain level. I’m just fondly recalling how when I was young, I’d want all my characters to be perfect and amazing and have everything their way all the time… Then you grow up and you realize, nope, that’s not how it really works. :)))
Exactly!!! I used to want my characters to be all cool and awesome. They get to be pretty, and intelligent, and competent, and okay, they get one or two easily mitigated flaws but they grow beyond it and become even more powerful!
I have no idea where it got lost but now it’s more like “Look at my disaster idiots! They have never once made a good decision!” XD I have no idea how those stupid brats haven’t died yet, they have no self-preservation instincts at all XD I just really enjoy roasting my characters XD
K now that is really cool! And haha, it’s understandable to hesitate about writing in faith… I do that all the time too, honestly. But I like what you’ve come up with for that.
Oh, it’s SO much fun! I like finding ways to use the biblical commandments in a different context. It’s awesome!
There are different religious backgrounds for each nation, but their current state varies.
Oh, that’s fascinating! I love how you portray all those different ones, it must cause quite some clashing between the characters! It’s also interesting how you seem to have a religious conflict in the history of your world, that must impact it a lot!
Other than the Raynorans’ great dread of their long list of unlucky numbers, and the Kaynsliens’ great reverence for tigers because tigers are “guardians from the mountains” or whatever, I have some historical legends to dive into.
I love that legend!! The legendary friendship that gets rekindled by their descendants is one of my absolute favorite tropes!! I love it so much, it’s just… the idea that two people cared about each other so much that it has an impact on the world at large, big enough that it’s bound to happen again. Idk I have lots of feelings about it but can’t sufficiently articulate any of them XD
What about you? I’m sure you have lots of cool stuff like that in your story!
LOL, not as much as you’d think, although I love it! I just find them hard to write XD
Faye probably mentions the myths the most. She has an overactive imagination and often misinterprets just about everything. XD
Besides that, most of the myths are based on things that technically do happen or did happen, but then it gets romanticized and confused through what’s essentially one long game of telephone.
For instance, they have a myth about ‘things’ which are basically detached shadows. They’re malicious and carry knives that are made from pieces of the moon that falls as it wanes. Anyone who sees them is rumored to die from insanity within a week.
All of this is kind of set in reality. Except, they’re not detached shadows, they’re assassins. The moon-knives are pure bedazzlement of the story XD The dying part does happen though XD
Besides that, there’s a ruined palace in the woods, that used to belong to the Nebatan royal family. There’s actually a whole story about how the royal family came to fall. I’m making a series of drawings about it, it should be pretty fun!
Again, it’s not exactly what happened, but in vague lines, it’s pretty close!
The ruins is one of my favorite settings to write. I have a weakness for ruins and just a ruined, decayed palace completely deserted and overgrown is just… the vibes are right XD
On an entirely different note! I don’t think I’ve told you, but I have a newsletter where I talk about writing in general and some more about my projects. There are cat pictures and memes, it’s a fun time!
