Aaaand we will see where this little idiot’s favorite catchphrase will get him soon enough… *shrugs*
😂 For some reason the term “little idiot” cracks me up.
Who knew that made up people could be so independent? 😅
CONROY
“It should be ‘Bonum scutum’. ‘Shield’ is the subject, so it’s in nominativus, and the adjective matches the noun in tense, case, and gender,” a bored voice from a few shelves down stated.
Annoyance flared up within me as I realized that the voice was right. “You’re right. I apologize that my incorrect Latin grammar d-disturbed you from whatever you are d-doing,” I said in the sincerest voice I could manage.
The girl, Ophelia, smiled apologetically. I stared back coldly.
“That’s a nice name! For some reason, my parents decided to name me after that character in Hamlet, though I don’t make a habit of dying dramatically after being driven into madness,” she said, ignoring my statement to her hidden friend.
She smiled widely again. Clearly she was one of those people who thought that stretching one’s mouth upwards would solve the world’s problems. Then, she collapsed into a nearby chair and began studying her brightly colored and impractical looking shoes.
I snorted. She was a strange one though her honesty was refreshing. I turned back to my book though this time I paid more attention to my surroundings than to the book’s contents. I did not wish to embarrass myself again.
“Wow, you’ve been in here for five minutes, and you’ve bored me already. That’s got to be some sort of record,” a new voice boomed.
I jumped slightly but thankfully did not scream. I scanned the library, but the voice’s owner remained hidden.
“For those who cared enough to find out where I am, I’ll put your minds at ease. I’m the castle. Now while you puzzle over that bombshell, I’m going to drop another one on you. In about a second or so, the lights will flip off. In about a second after that, poisonous snakes will be released into the library. Since the auth-, I mean, my bosses don’t want you dead after only a couple of minutes, I’ll make sure that the snakes will stay on the ground. They won’t go flying around the room or climbing up walls. Everyone got that? ‘Kay so, that’s it. Peace out and try not to die. I’m getting paid a $100 an hour to traumatize you not to kill you.”
My brain was still registering what the “castle” had said when all the lights went out. I threw the book down and felt along the bookshelf. Perhaps climbing it would be the answer. I tested it. It swayed dangerously. No, that was not option. I stumbled forward and felt the chairs and furniture in front of me. I climbed on. It would do for now.
It’s your choice whether you want Erik to hear The Castle and whether the lights will shut off.
