Oh @hannahrenner’s busier than me so she can’t post as often but she’s probably been reading all the posts and waiting for a good moment to sit down to write.

Well, Connel did not imagine he was going to charm any useful information out of Þorunn. And now the vampire was talking.
“No, what is lacking here is your humility. I have seen arrogance on all scales – I’ve seen men reach for godhood – but I have never seen someone so arrogantly contemptuous of others who are arrogant. It always appalls me how shortsighted you humans can be,”
“Oh well what about you just watching and laughing about it? I’m sure that’s very humble.” Connel snapped and Tatira dug her claws into his shoulder as she shifted position. But watching Karayan’s completely unperturbed snacking on cookies made it very hard to stay irritated with him for some infuriating reason. Something about his amiably critical manners was both amusing and plucky and the bounty-hunter had never been talked back to like that in his life.
“I’m assuming we have to stick together.” someone said
“So one would hope,” Karayan remarked, getting to his feet. “but if so we had better follow the grouchy shieldmaiden.”
Connel shook his head at the vampire and snorted, before following after.

“Your double negatives and obsession with cake is enough to bug me, now you’re throwing me on the floor.” Dr. Dominic grumbled ignoring her hand. “Not a great way to start. Who are you any way? Not that I care, but it would be nice to not have to refer to you as ‘the weird cake girl’.”
“Oi, Meira Kalyani–like you humans say–at your service!” She nearly gave the glassfolk salute of holding her hand palm-out at her forehead but ducked into an unsteady bow in time. “My da–used to–was a trapper and he was best more than most humans trap, righto, but I’ll be a fighter! And I ain’t double negative or if I am you’re double double negative you been grumbly more than I been.”
Meira cocked her head at him, balancing her spear on her shoulders with one hand and looking rather like a curious puppy. For a second she blinked at him, taking in everything about him and trying to reach a conclusion about his behavior.
“Humans are loons.” she said definitively.
