@evelyn It goes even beyond just being made aware a new book is available. Stretching something out between a series vs one giant story means:
- Amazon gives new books a boost in the algorithm for a couple weeks. When you rapid release a series a few weeks between releases, you get your story in the limelight for much, much longer.
- If your story is well-marketed to the point it’s going to be in the top twenty list in your genre, ideally multiple installments will be on that list in a series, letting you take much more of that precious real estate that everyone craves.
- More comments and more sales means your author rank jumps higher and faster, making the algorithm prioritize you more.
- In Kindle Unlimited, you will often make higher royalties by putting previews of the next book in each current book, which may lead to higher page reads overall.
- Besides the individual books, you can turn a series into a virtual box set, making for another point of entry for readers who prefer standalones and also creating a great giveaway product.
- Giving away or making free the first book in a series is a million times more enticing than giving away the first ten percent of a single book, which would be your alternative to hook people into your backlist.
- And just in general, most Kindle readers currently prefer series and are more likely to read them over standalones.
If you’re not doing the marketing of your own book or are traditionally publishing or are going wide instead of using Kindle Unlimited these aren’t as big considerations though.
If you could share a link to your blog, that’d be awesome!
