Brendin considered mentioning that he had once led the Maeres alongside Cyn, but thought better of it and bit his tongue.  Instead he thought about his role at Ironstorm, but that probably wasn’t worth mentioning either.  After all, he didn’t actually remember those experiences, or at least not clearly; he only knew of it because it was written down in his journal.

“You’re right,” Alessio said, raising his voice just enough for Vulferym to hear. “We can’t bother him with peasant affairs while he’s in the midst of his only true love.”

With an artistic flourish, Alessio innocently affected examining his hands adoringly and stared back up at Vulferym.

Brendin chuckled at the display.  “Are you sure you’re not a candidate?” he asked the boy quietly, smiling slightly.  He may be insecure, but still he was the one who had suggested their course of action.  And he seemed quite willing and ready to speak his mind.
