I don’t think it’s right to take away pain. There’s a difference between being there for someone, and taking away pain. Being there for someone means you’re there to comfort them, to hold them, to let them know they’re not alone. Taking away pain involves taking away the very essence that makes us as humans able to grow and change.

Pain’s definition changes with each person you subject it to. My definition of pain is different than yours, because my life was and will be shaped differently by pain than yours. If you take away that pain, you take away an essential part of me. It’s not that I am completely tied to my pain, but it’s something that has forced me to grow and to revert as a person that a world without pain could not do. Sure, pain sucks. But it’s a part of free will. If we don’t have consequences for our actions that involve pain, then we can choose which ever path we like, no matter the morality or light of that path. If there is no pain for anything we commit, then there is no point to choosing God in the first place over a different path because there is nothing for Him to give, nothing for Him to offer to free us from the burdens of sin and pain brought on by that sin. There’s no mercy or grace to give. And if there’s nothing to give…. well, then Jesus dying on a cross was worthless.

In short…. no, I wouldn’t take away their pain. I would help them bear it–but not take it away.

Now, it’s 3AM and I’m going to bed. XD
