    *swoops in on a nightfury*

Well… I wrote up a super nice long reply last night…. and then accidentally closed my tab. So yeah. Now I shall attempt to not reenact that mishap.

Let’s start off with the main theme of my WIP, Firemaster–love. Self-love, the love of wealth, the love of others, romantic love, platonic love, and most importantly–the ability to forgive both yourself and others.

Yep. Of course, being me, I picked out a rather tough theme to cover in (hopefully) only three books. Anyhow, that theme of love is the main theme, while the separate parts or types of love are different themes for different characters and different arcs. The four MCs respectively symbolize the attributes/faults of selflessness and kindness/greed and spite(Kirin), self-love and acceptance from others/self-hatred and depression(Jax), protective and caring/controlling and anxious(Vyrn), and lastly forgiveness and determination/hatred and vengeful(Shadow/Haydn). Each character has his/her own separate demons to work through, and in turn their own smaller theme that ties into the main themes. Each character symbolizes the double-edged blade of attributes and faults, and how each correlates to each other and oppose each other while they still can be flipped on their heads to be revealed to be something else nearly all the time…. I’m also a huge fan of miscommunications(no, not in romance, thankfully.), and how people’s impressions of each other are often wrong, so I love to twist that in as well. 😉

On to backstory–let’s take Kirin, the first MC we are introduced to in the story. Kirin is a slave that escapes captivity in the very beginning of the book when his nation(Westrim Earth) is invaded after their king is assassinated, and the nation is taken over by a ruthless captain who is determined to hunt down the rebel base situated in the nation. (No, not that rebel base. XD)

Kirin’s main goal for most of the series is to become the most powerful Master/Fire Mage in the land after his Bloodline Affinity is revealed(basically which element he can control), so he will never be in risk of going back to his former life as a slave. He wants to be rich and powerful so he can avenge himself and punish those hurt him. His whole arc is how he slowly begins to move away from his intense greed and self-love towards selflessness and kindness towards others, doing anything he can to protect those he loves no matter what the cost is for himself. Eventually, he’s forced to choose between his wants and his needs when the main villain offers him a place by his side, and also when he’s forced to choose between his power and his friends/family.

That’s Kirin’s theme–turning from greed and spite to selflessness and kindness. He has other arcs and more themes that he helps with, but that is what he symbolizes/his theme. The other characters have themes that tie into his as well, and I’m just going to note that some of the characters also represent the “seven deadly sins”, with Kirin as Greed, Jax as Wrath, Vyrn as Pride, Shadow/Haydn as Envy, the villain as Lust(not in the way you expect, however..), another villain as Gluttony, and finally, the entire elven race(but especially the king/ruler… still haven’t exactly figured out the politics) as Sloth. So yeah. More themes. XD

So there we go. How my backstories relate to theme. 😉
