Plots are a struggle for me as well, so I’ve enjoyed reading everyone’s thoughts. Everyone has a different writing process, but I have to know where my story’s going, or it won’t go anywhere.

I start off asking questions related to my story-seed (what does this character want, why do they want it so badly, why are they in space/underwater, etc.), then try to answer those questions. I like to outline my stories, but they always end up going in different directions like rowdy children. And you know what?

That’s okay! I’ve learned that it’s okay to let the characters shape and shift the plot as I get to know them better, because then it’s more their story and less mine, which it needs to be to appeal to readers. I still like to have it sketched out, though, as it’s easier to plan that way, and I like to pretend that I’m in charge ;).
