Ahhh… that’s makes sense! I’ll certainly tread carefully then.

I suppose one thing to point out is that in the TV show, there’s really no romantic subplot at all until the last two episodes, in which he basically marries his landlady’s daughter, Maria, (in a rather non-standard/non-cliched romantic way… I think the film version of him does it out of a sense of duty and responsibility – which is totally in alignment to his character – since she obviously cares and dotes deeply on him, so it’s a less than perfect match, but there’s no hint of adultery in these adaptations).
