I give a little somewhat shy laugh, as we begin following the others.

“I doubt that, I don’t think my book is good enough to be in there yet. But that’s okay, I didn’t expect it to be yet. Writing is a life long process and I don’t expect to be really, really good until I’m in my fifties. But hopefully if I keep working hard at it now, it won’t take quite so long. Amazon is my starting point, I start publishing there, and when I get better I plan to go back and improve my old books.

Getting published on Amazon isn’t as hard as it sounds. Actually someone told me a lot of stories on there were free because they were really bad. But I figured at least my stories would be out there, and it’s a easy place to start. I published under the name Renee Lauter, mostly because I felt embarrassed about people I knew reading my stuff. But my first real story is called Hoffmann’s Assistant. It’s the first one in the series and the one where my main character  meets Inspector Hoffmann for the first time. Amazon allowed me to publish it as both a book and a ebook for the kindle which is free. So if you want to read some steampunk in your free time I would be very excited if you posted a brief review for me. At the moment I only have one review which is from someone I know.  So I would be very excited for any readers I could get. ” I admitted.

Excited, was putting it mildly. Nobody read stories by someone as new as me who had only one review, so just to have a second review would have me giddy. And possibly running around our small apartment, gleefully calling out that I had a second review, this one from someone that wasn’t a relative.

Shaking off these thoughts, I remarked, “You know, I would be very interested in reading any of your work to, even if you just wants some feedback. Reading and giving feedback are fun. Especially about interesting relationships such as family dynamics! I love stories about families.”

Silently I hoped to myself that this didn’t sound as weird as I felt it sounded as soon as it left my mouth. I couldn’t explain why stories about families had such appeal to me, anymore than I could explain why writing complicated relationships interested me.
