RÚAN

“That looks like it hurts.”

The question caught Rúan by surprise. He glanced over at Quin, and a hint of concern sparked in the boy’s eyes.

Rúan smiled through the pain. “I’m fine.”

A crackling sound reverberated all throughout the cave.

“Now that you all know who the others are, I think it’s time to make some enemies.” 

The voice was chilling, and an invisible breeze rippled across Rúan’s skin, making him shiver.

“I now know none of you have any problems with shedding blood, so let’s go with that, shall we?”

A sickening lump formed in Rúan’s throat. What does THAT mean?

Rúan slowly stood up, trying to hurry to where he’d left his sword in the corner. Halfway there, though, his injured calf sent needles up his leg, and he collapsed with a cry, blood pooling around him.

Gritting his teeth, he inched forward in an army crawl towards his sword, grasping the hilt with whitening knuckles.

Whatever this infernal place wants me to do, he thought as a fire pulsed through his veins, it will have a hard time getting me to comply.

Ahck — I wonder what he’s going to do at this point. 😅
