In academic situations (aka highschool exams lol), it’s that paragraph that introduces a literary piece. Normally, it has the author, what journal, book, magazine, etc. it was written in, and it provides a little context.

For non-highschool exam situations, it’s similar. It’s that blob (or blurb, if you prefer) that’s on the back of the book cover. It gives a little insight about what’s happening and what will happen, but it still leaves you hanging and curious for more.
