When practicing gesture you’re basically looking for the movement in a pose without focussing on all the details. One of the best ways to practice this is to look at a picture and determine the where the flow is. I drew a red line on the ballerina so that you could see my progress (ofcourse you don’t have to do this, this is just to show y’all). I usually start with a simple shape for the head and than draw the line of action. After that I draw some very basic and simple anatomy on top of it and it’s done. Everyone’s progress is a little different, this is just the way that I like to do it. If you have more gesture in your finished illustrations they will be more lively and interesting to look at 🙂
