I like to make my magic systems like, these gifts were given to a select group to protect others because it is a broken world. It’s not that these selected were better or anything but because the Giver found something in them that He admired. Let’s take the disciples that followed Jesus for example. Hundreds of people followed Jesus around, but Jesus only chose twelve to give the ‘gift’ of walking with him and hearing his teachings every day. They were the ones he trained to continue his work. Later, a lot of them performed miracles. There was nothing special about these twelve men, but Jesus saw them and said, “Follow me.”

But what about those that use the magic for evil? Why would the Giver give people like them such powerful gifts to do evil. Well, Judas was one of the twelve, and he betrayed Jesus for some money. He didn’t start out bad, but then his greed and selfish ways took over.

Also, as a side note, I found these verses where they talk about being the body of Christ:

“And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.

“Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles?

“Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?

“But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet show I unto you a more excellent way.” –1 Corinthians 12: 28-31

Basically, what I want to use this verse for is an example for the whole magic/non-magic sort of thing. God created us all equal, yes, but he appoints us each with tasks to fulfill. I guess if we think about it that way it’s easier to come up with, say, roles for the non-magic peoples. What do they bring to the world, as opposed to the magic people? What can they do that the magic people cannot?

I’m not sure if all of that made complete sense, but those are just my thoughts on creating magic systems (which I try to keep to a minimum).
