AMBERLEY’S POV

I barely had a moment to process my thoughts when Emberyn pulled me into a tight embrace.

“I thought I lost you.” he said, then squeezed me tighter. No more words were exchanged; we already knew what the other was feeling.

After a while, Emberyn released me and we looked at each other.

“Where are the others?” I asked, noticing the absence of our acquaintances–no, friends– from the room. Not that the room was empty–quite the opposite. Most of them were clones; which were from Star Wars. I had to tell Emberyn.

“Emberyn, listen to me,” I said. “I know where all these people are from.” Emberyn’s eyes flicked to me.

“But, how can you? We only met them today–”

“Maybe not met them face-to-face,” I interrupt. “But we both know about them.”

Emberyn looks at me, confuzzled*, but sighs and gestures for me to continue.

“Emberyn,” I say in a whisper. “These people, are from stories. Ahsoka and the clones are from Clone Wars, which is the predecessor of Star Wars. Harry, Hermione, Ron, Hagrid, and Fang: they’re from the Harry Potter Series. And Janner, Kalmar, and Leeli–” I paused, uncertain about this one.”They’re from the Wingfeather Saga, the book series we read last year while I was in the hospital.” Emberyn looks at me, stunned. “But–in the end–Janner…” I sigh.

“I know, Emberyn. I know. But we can’t do anything about it. He came back, apparently, and despite the fact we pretty much know all of these stories, there’s bigger fish to fry.”

I look at Emberyn. “Macha. She’s one of the biggest villains in Irish myth and legend.  We have to defeat her, wound her somehow. Get her back to her own world, and the rest of us back to ours.”
