A short snippet of the back story of a character from Joe’s Secret Plan.

I walked closer, never talking my eyes off of the figure in a cloak doing amazing looking kicks, punches, and other fighting moves. In all my 10 years I had never seen anyone like that who did it so well, looking so calm and collected. The figure did another sweeping kick then came to a stop.
I stepped out of my hiding the figure awing me with his cloak and talent in fighting. The figure turned quickly immediately on guard.
I froze. My mind started to jumble all up. I couldn’t believe my eyes. “Joseph?”
The figure let his guard down, letting his hood fall off showing his dark brown shaggy hair, and keen dark eyes. I noticed he had a little facial hair too, but other than that, he was the same as I had seen him a year ago.
His dark eyes had a perplexed and confused look in them. “L-little sister? Renee?”
I smiled up to him. “Yeah! What are you doing here? And when did you get so awesome?!?”
He chuckled. “It just takes a little time and practice.”
I looked at him seriously. “Teach me.”
He frowned “What?”
“Teach me how to fight.”
He looked at me, studying me. He was probably thinking I was too little. Or just a girl, so not worth it to waste his time over me. But then slowly his face started to change. It became softer.
He took my hand into his rough, worn one, and started leading me back toward were I would sleep. Looking down at me, he said, “I think behind that nice, soft, cuteness,” I giggled when he poked me. “Lies a warrior.”
I stood up straighter and smiled, holding onto hope that what he said was inside me was true.
