@sageinthemeadow That’s very interesting. I find that I’ve had almost the reverse reaction since learning more about story-craft.

Knowing firsthand how difficult stories are to craft – I find that I’m able to enter the mind of the creator and sense what they were trying to do, and also pick out and appreciate the things they did right and which therefore impact me a lot. Because of this, I have been able to take away good things from a lot of books and movies which I formerly would have been unable to appreciate because of being more critical. It has actually made the whole process a lot more enjoyable – taking away what I appreciated and what was done well, and leaving the rest behind.
