@evelyn Haha, that’s an awesome neighbour! 😆
1. I would suggest you work backward. Start at where you want to end (the answer to the mystery) and work back from it. What happens before they solve it? And before that? And that? By the time you reach the start of the story, you have a whole line of dominoes set up to knock over in a straight line to the end. 😉
2. Maybe Uncle Fred used to be a very respectable person, and then something happened that changed him drastically? Because of that, all his relatives don’t like him as much (like stuck-up people, they don’t want to acknowledge being related to him, even though he’s rich – but the kids don’t judge him the same way, because they’re kids) and he decides to travel the world with his mansion as his base, and with his favorite niece and nephew. So he stages this long will to give away valuables to relatives and is leaving these clues so that his niece and nephew can find him. By giving away the valuables (the ones that his relatives know that he owns) he makes it less worth it to come back to his mansion. And then, two kids disappear off the face of the earth while they’re staying there… spooky. (really, they’re just joining him on treasure hunts or something) That keeps people away even more, and he is free to use the place as his base.
I don’t know if that’s any good of an idea; it’s kind of all over the place. 😛 But that’s what came to me! 🙂
3. I also suck with titles. XD Maybe Will of Iron or something, as a reference to Uncle Fred’s will in the story as well as how stubborn he was?? 😛 No idea.
