What you guys have been talking about sounds great! I think that outline sounds very workable, @i-david. My guess is that the last bit, the actual moment of conversion, is going to be the hardest part to keep realistic and non-cheesy. Maybe not over-explaining would go a long way there.

One minor comment: I feel like drinking shows up in a lot of stereotypical, preachy stories as a particularly “un-Christian” sin. That’s not to say it couldn’t be presented and used really, really well, but if we used something different to break the MC, we might distance ourselves more from the kind of story we want to avoid. For instance, the MC gets so angry at his friend that he punches him in the jaw. To me that would come across as more original and unexpected. Your thoughts, @everybody?

Also, just a thought, but should the MC be a girl, maybe? In some Christian stories, several guys are portrayed as pretty bad sinners while most, or at least some, of the girls are portrayed as nearly angelic. Not that our first or only goal should be to do something different from what’s already been done, but a few meaningful twists could make this story!
