“I too, have seen the deception of Melkor’s lies spread further and deeper.” I add wearily. “The neighboring lands call them the Ice Folk  behind closed doors, and the inhabitants have given up refuting the name. It is not an obvious malice or evil which befalls them, but an insidious despair and ever-dimming of the light of hope. There are a few pockets of believers in the One, as are all who gather here, but as their king follows his predecessors into madness, and paranoia, they fear persecution is not far off.”

I despise being the bearer of such poor news, but at least their plight is not as dark as others’ are already. In that, at least, I take a little hope. HaSatan will never gain full victory.

I nod my thanks at Rachel for the additional light. Now, at least, we could see each other’s expressions more clearly and, perhaps, speak more openly. In Kate’s direction, I offer an apologetic smile, one which I hope conveys an extra burst of strength for her to take, and give voice to my earlier thought.

“HaSatan, Lucifer, Melkor, Moriñgotto… whatever name he goes by, his days are counted. In that, at least, we can take hope.”
