Okay, so after hearing y’all rave about this guy I just HAD to go and pick up Mistborn: The Final Empire.

It’s been about four weeks since and I’ve already read: The Final Empire, The Well of Ascension, The Hero of Ages, Secret History, The Alloy of Law, Shadows of Self, The Bands of Mourning, and I’ve started Way of Kings. *deep breath*

    Needless to say…I’M OBSESSED.

(Disclaimer: While it has never been the intention of a Gracie to spoil a story for any of her fellow humans, the Cosmere is an intricate and supremely connected fictional universe in which simply mentioning a character’s name could have serious implications regarding the plots of any of Sanderson’s works. We, therefore, ask that any reading this would exercise caution before continuing forward.)

My fave characters from Mistborn would have to be good ole El and Vin. *many symptoms of suppressed geeking out* I love em to death. I also realllyy like Kell and Spook bc they’re just so darn not-your-typical-good-guys, ya know? And yeah, the ending to Mistborn Era #1 trilogy wasn’t exactly what I’d call my fave ending for a trilogy ever…but that didn’t stop me from crying buckets. XD

    BUT OH MY

    SECRET HISTORY

    I MEAN

    AGHHHH

I sobbed SO BAD near the end when….well, any of you have read it will know what I’m talking about. 😉 SO MANY FEELS.  😭😭

Whenever I happen to be reading in the same room with my lil bro and sis they ask me to read aloud (and I’m happy to oblige bc i love doing voices and making it as realistic as possible 😛 ) so they got to hear enough of the Mistborn Era #1 to know the general thing of what was going on. I ended up reading all of Secret History aloud to them and when we finished Jac (my lil bro who knew only the absolute barest bones of the books’ plots and only met K once) said, “Man, Grace. I think that was your best performance yet. You had me choking up”. And I was just, “um, yeah. That’s bc I was literally, ACTUALLY crying, bud.” XD XD Srsly. I havent cried that hard over a book in a LONGGGGG time. 😭😭😭

If none of you have read Secret History that last paragraph is prob gonna be total gibberish, but I promise im (mostly) sane and can be coherent if I need to be. 😛

As for more writerly stuff with his books

The swearing: I was fine with what was in Mistborn Era #1 bc it was either made up or implicit but in Mistborn Era #2 (the Wax & Wayne books) it got a little crazy. Not so much direct swearing as a lot of crass comments and innuendo. Granted most of that came from one character in particular and is obviously a part of who he is but I still wonder if all of it needed to be spelled out quite so much. Anyone else read the Wax and Wayne books?

And of course, that said, I still absolutely LOVE Mistborn Era #2. They’re super funny and plus you get to see Scadriel after Era #1 so that’s awesomesauce.

    Other thoughts:

I really liked Sanderson’s pacing for most of his novels. The Final Empire especially. It is crazy rare for me to find a book that I don’t feel like is a slog in some places but Final Empire was perfect. I also notice that Sanderson has a TON of dialogue in almost all his books. Maybe it’s just me but I feel like 70% of his books are ppl talking and I think it’s awesome. 😀 Anyone else notice that?

He’s also one of the only authors who’s gets me honestly interested in the romance subplots of his stories. I feel like they’re better quality than other romantic subplots. Any thoughts?

Okay, ik i’m gonna be horrified at how long this post looks once it’s posted but I haven’t been able to geek out with anyone like this for a while so I’m just gonna go for it. 😛
