@christlover I’d say the same… Challenge I had a lot more work than Challenge B, and compared to Challenge A, it was probably about the same, except that all the tests were not about things one memorized, but testing the actual comprehension of the material.

It’s been a while since I read the book (last summer so almost a full year now). I only remember that I found his ideas of corporal punishment interesting. I’ve been meaning to read that book again…

As for Walden, I read the first chapter as it required, but after I was done, I realized that I didn’t remember much of what it said… it just didn’t stick. Every once and a while there was a little nugget of his philosophy which I found interesting, especially his views on education being a hands-on experience.

I agree, having hands-on education makes it more memorable, applicable, and interesting, but that doesn’t mean throwing out studying math in my basement or sitting at my desk and parsing out Latin. For me, hands-on doesn’t mean throwing out the scholarly subjects, but looking at them with a new light… bringing in a mathematical puzzle to go with the day’s lesson, bringing in an old Latin poem to parse (instead of just reading about the Romans slaughtering the Gauls) and maybe even writing a Latin poem or studying the culture that surrounds Latin.

What were your thoughts on Walden?
