Guys, if we go with Fantasy, won’t we basically be piggy-backing off the easiest genre for this type of thing? Considering it was everyone’s immediate first thought, that seems to me the exact reason why we shouldn’t do it. It doesn’t seem unique enough. While contemporary is definitely harder, I think that well-done contemporary prose can be the most imaginative/intriguing, because the limitations make you think deeper.

Whatever story idea we go with, (whether that’s contemporary or fantasy), I think it needs to be simple. The point here is the wording; if we have dragons and superheros and magic, the story will take away from the way it’s told. Interesting prose can make the most boring idea unique, and I think that’s what we ought to aim for.
