@msqueen8 I think Kate answered your question. 😊 A person shows the greatest strength when they strive to become who they were created to be.
@cassandraia First off, you really NEED to read the LOTR books.😊 At least if you want to understand the characters better…the books add so much depth and clarity that you don’t necessarily get from just watching the movies. (Also, the extended version of the movies explains more stuff if you don’t want to read the books. 😉)
Faramir is one of my favorite characters from LOTR, so I can get quite protective and passionate when talking about him, but I’ll try to keep my biased feelings in check for a moment. 😜
I don’t think Faramir’s desire for his father’s approval is a negative thing. He’s a human…everybody wants approval and acceptance from the people they love, especially a child from their father. It’s just the way we are. If Faramir had let that desire become an obsession than yeah it would be wrong…but that doesn’t happen.
Also, when Faramir says that line you quoted, it’s right after his dad basically says he wishes Faramir was dead. So…how can you blame the poor guy?
When Faramir rides off to battle at Osgiliath, I suppose he’s doing it for his father’s approval, but I always thought he did it because he wanted to honor his father’s wishes. It’s basically committing suicide but Faramir goes because his father told him to.
