(Well, my first answer would probably be “it depends,” but since that really isn’t an answer…)
I think that if an individual is pursuing writing as a calling, he should write even when he doesn’t feel inspired. Pushing through writer’s block has benefits, such as encouraging a serious mindset towards writing, improving the author’s skills (practice makes perfect, right?), and helping the project progress towards completion. And while there are many times when an author shouldn’t write because there’s something more important going on in his life, I believe an author should consider writing to be a discipline as well as an art form and therefore be willing to write even when feeling “uninspired.”
(Note: I think I’ve heard a lot about this topic from SE, so some if not all of my points are probably derived from those ideas…)
