Ah, Charles Kemp! Thank-you! (He’s probably going to come up more in our discussion, so it’s probably good I can call him by his proper character name.) 🙂
I’m not so sure he’s unredeemable so much as he chooses not to be redeemed. Like Jessi noted, he seems to recognize the fact that he’s evil, but instead of being driven towards redemption, he simply hides behind a mask of civility while in reality relishes being evil.

I love John Rhys-Davies in Lord of the Rings! He’s a great comic relief character, funny enough to relieve tense moments but not so much that humor dominates the scenes. (He also does a great job in embracing his evil in Beyond the Mask.)
