    OK BUT ALSO!!!

I’ve figured out how I’m going to reincorporate Kit and Val into Spire!  They’re going to be really significant characters in Basil’s story (so, their timeskip.)  I know they were having a really great life in Spire before everything went downhill, and I also know they’ve been really involved in their church their for years and are loved and accepted there.  Kit in particular is kind of the unofficial “fun uncle” of all the kids there and it makes me very soft :’)

He and Val end up hiding Basil, and I’m pretty sure that’s the catalyst for their decision to cross back into their homeland and seek refuge there.  I think some people they knew well from their church got involved too once it became clear that Basil’s life was at stake, and from there they slowly started building a little party of defectors XD

But anyways, instead of being the “annoying older brother” in Basil’s life, Kit’s going to end up being the “annoying uncle” and I think that has the potential to be both very hilarious and very sweet and wholesome :’)

Also, Spire’s always had this authoritarian/militaristic, kinda dystopian feel, and I wanted to really try exploring that more from a historical perspective in Spire.  I think it’s particularly inspired by WW2 right now (especially in Europe, with the different resistance factions in Nazi territory.) I think the city of Spire is in another country, and Kit and Val immigrated there (along with some other people they knew.)  I think at the time, it seemed smart and fun and glamorous, and they really enjoyed it until the politics started going south 🙁

Also SPOILERS (I don’t really care, but if anyone does then you might not want to read the rest!)

Remember Alastor, and how he had a significant role in Sebastian’s disappearance?  I think he was able to escape justice by joining Spire’s military/allying himself with this political group, and by the time the timeskip rolls around he’s become an extremely powerful leader in his own right.  I’m absolutely sure he’s involved with Basil and the labs, and I know he’s developed a pretty extensive list of “allies” and informants through blackmail and coercion (so…eerily similar to how he got Kit ostracized…)  He’s kept an eye on Kit for years now, but he’s never found anything truly blackmail worthy XD

I’m also toying with the idea of Sebastian secretly selling information.  He’s a bit of a double agent in that sense, because he isn’t fazed by the idea of double crossing his clients, and he’s well known as both a dangerous ally and a dangerous enemy (so, probably best to avoid him as much as possible.)
