My advice would be that yes definitely your friend should sign up for the forum, however I wouldn’t have her apply to a guild until she has been around for a while and then can determine if she’s able to spend time here.  The guilds are supposed to be for dedicated writers who have quantifiable time to spend on improving their craft and building community.  Does that make sense?
