The I-L-L Poem
An epic poem of love, tragedy , adventure, medical pursuits and pickles.
Part I: Bill – by Josiah Huckabee
There once was a man
Whose name was Bill
And he lived on a hill
He built a mill
To keep out the chill
But then he got ill
So he wrote a will
To his nephew Phill
Then he died
Part II: Bill and Jill – by John Morrison
Before he was ill
The man named Bill
Married Jill
Who made pickles dill
When they had time to kill
They would sit on the sill
of the window in the mill
Jars the would fill
And let none of it spill
It required such skill
to fill
Jars with pickles dill
Their life was a thrill
Then Bill became ill
And Jill gave him a pill
But it didn’t help.
Part III: Phil and Jill – by Emma Huckabee
After poor Bill was ill (and died)
His nephew Phil
Inherited the mill
as said in the will
Now the mill
That Bill built to keep out the chill
Let in the chill (due to lack of repair)
“I need money to fix it,” thought Phil
So Phil reopened the mill
and sold pickles dill
what was left still
But when Phil
Needed more pickles, he asked Jill
Jill had skill in making pickles dill
Not so with Phil
he had no skill
But alas for Jill
of sorrow, she had had her fill
“Bill! My poor Bill!”
“How can I make pickles dill without Bill?”
Jill would not–could not make pickles dill
on the sill without her Bill
Then things started going downhill
Phil couldn’t make pickles dill because of the chill
His hands were so cold they made him spill
Poor Phil tried and tried though he had no skill,
Until
They went bankrupt.
