@taylorclogston That’s interesting what you said about Fawkes. I had my doubts about the book, too, but I’d still like to read it someday. What did you take exception to the most?
What I read- The Blue Sword by Robin McKinley. I highly recommend this book to anyone who hasn’t read it. It has a bit of mild language, but once I got over the initial shock I found that it fit the personalities of certain characters. Other than that, I have nothing to complain about. The characters are so well done, especially the protagonist. Harry (she’s a girl who goes by this nickname because she doesn’t like her real name 😛 ) is probably one of my favorite female protagonists. The worldbuilding is good, too.
What I wrote- A lot on “Fire Moon” (which I am currently brainstorming a permanent title for). Reading The Blue Sword helped me to get out of my writer’s block.
What I learned- I have to consciously work to keep an excess of telling out of my writing. It’s annoying sometimes. I’m finding certain KP and SE articles helpful with that.
Other stuff- Trying to finally finish my short essay on Calvinism. If anyone here has any expertise in that area and would be willing to critique, please let me know.
