I am currently trying to come up with names for characters in my fantasy story. I am not sure if using real-world names would fit in my world. Any good strategies on how to best come up with names? Also, what do you think of using surnames like we do today or doing what Lord of the rings did such as “son/daughter of” or “house of (founding father name)?

After I figure out the best way to do my naming, I think it would be realistic to make names into certain themes like how American names differ from Japanese, if I have several cultures.
