Evie is 16 (youngest here so far so whoopee), but she has an extremely old soul. She’s suffered abuse and has PTSD, and she basically relies solely on survivalism. Y’all with nice characters are encouraged to try to break her ice lol. She’s 5’7 with mid-length light brown hair, brown eyes, and a dagger that comes with her everywhere. She’s also very good at self-defense and knows 101 different ways to find food while living on the streets. Okay that’s about all you get to know for now…

    Leytera

Leytera stared in shock and fear.

She was literally surrounded by murderers.

All except for Quin. He definitely wasn’t a murderer.

And although Niarok had clearly killed people since he said he had, he wasn’t a danger to Leytera.

But all the others? She wasn’t sure about them.

The walls and ceiling of the castle started to press down on her and she gasped for air. Great. And now she was going to have a claustrophobia attack in the midst of six murderers, one terrifyingly stern man, one mystery she barely knew about, and one traumatized boy who was… also having a panic attack.

    She didn’t care.

She needed air, and she needed it now.

The walls pressed harder and she panted.

She stood and ran down the tunnel that Niarok and Yila had just appeared from, stumbling in the darkness. This was worse.

And then suddenly she was falling.

    And falling.

    She was going to die.

But instead of hitting the ground, somehow she felt like she was fading. And then all of a sudden she was in a merismatic field shaft plummeting down to the lab.

How that had happened, she didn’t know.

    And frankly?

    She didn’t care either.

Okayyyyy and that was an interesting way to get her out… but here’s Evie.

    Evie

Her head pounded and her back stung, wailing at her to do something. But she couldn’t tend the wounds until nighttime when her mother was asleep.

She could hear her mother screaming but she tuned it out and turned away. Fear settled in her stomach but she ignored it. She couldn’t afford to deal with it right now, not with warm blood seeping down her back and her brother paralyzed at her feet.

    She jerked awake, panting.

    The dreams were intensifying.

But then she realized her back still hurt and her head was still pounding.

She leaped to her feet, hand instantly on her dagger.

Everything was dark except for a faint light ahead.

Voices filtered towards her, and her heart pounded.

Where was she? This was definitely not Rivaluna, and it wasn’t the lodge either.

She stepped forward silently until the light flooded across the floor.

She pressed herself into the shadows, staring into the room.

It was a cave with various recesses, and it was full of people.

There was a one-legged man having a panic attack and a black-haired man shaking him. The guy with the fiery red hair behind them looked slightly disconcerted but otherwise calm.

There was a girl who looked to be about Evie’s age standing a little ways away from the entrance. Her lithe form was agile and she was clearly very good at fighting. Her belt was full of throwing knives and the longbow strung across her back was practically a part of her.

She was definitely a threat, especially the way those cold blue eyes were eating up every corner of the room with anger.

Evie scanned further. There was a tall black-haired man looking at the one-legged man, and the shape of the face told her they were brothers. The tall one might as well have been an angry stone.

He was dangerous, but probably not a threat.

Then there were two people hiding in the shadowy recesses. One was hunched forward slightly with his hands in his pockets, and yet he still looked threatening.

The other one was sitting a few feet from pocket-man with his hand resting on a throwing knife.

Though he was tall with bulging muscles, she didn’t mark him as a threat. His eyes reminded her of Kathreya’s.

    Don’t underestimate him.

Then there was a man wearing strange armor, most definitely a threat, and yet another tall guy with black hair and cream colored clothes. He struck her as distant, almost like he didn’t belong, but unthreatening.

There were too many warriors here.

    This was not okay.

But she had no other choice, so she gripped her dagger in a fist and stepped into the light.

“What is this place?” she snapped.

And then they were all looking at her.

    Nice job, Evie. Nice job.

    Okayyyyy going to bed now…
